![]() | While known during his early years primarily as an etcher, Whistler began creating paintings which were excepted warmly in both Europe and the United States. He is best known of course for the portrait entitled, "Arrangement in Black and Grey No. 1: The Artist's Mother" (or "Whistler's Mother"), but he did many other fine paintings as well, such as this example of a young girl in a fancy white dress. | |||
